So it looks like my other forum, JUOT.net is offline. The entire server (it's on a shared server) seems to have been wiped out... Now we get to see if the backups the web host promised really work. Let's hope so. :D
I was debating on upgrading Qapla.com to 4.1.11 today but I might hold off- I don't want both forums down at the same time, even if only for a few minutes.
this is just to drum up more traffic here, I know ;)

Actually I was getting pretty decent traffic anyway... Hey do you know how/why you got "A, A" in for your location during registration? I have been deleting people with that figuring they were spammers but obviously not... whoops.
just showed up as the default when I registered and was too lazy to change it

We are on a Gold shared hosting package from URLJet. They charge $25 a month but are well known as the best web hosts for vBulletin forums- they specialize in vBulletin hosting. On any other host we'd already have need for a VPS or dedicated server costing several times as much per month,

Good stuff... I have added some new smilies though in case this site is ever needed for a JUOT backup again.:mrtiphat:

Did you use their backups?
Still going to hold off on upgrading qapla to 4.1.11?

They must have used the backups themselves since I didn't need to do anything... And when we got back online no data was missing best I could tell.
This hack had nothing to do with vBulletin- it was an exploit in cpanel. I still do not intend to upgrade JUOT to VB4, although a new forum I would start with VB4 (like I did here for Qapla.com).
I will see what VB5 is like when that comes out and decide if JUOT will move to VB5 or XenForo, or maybe not upgrade at all and wait another year to see what is out there.

XenForo would be my recommendation
I enlisted the help of a few friends and attacked my own site. Even with a heavy DDOS, the server capped out on connections before the software could have any direct impact on cpu or ram.
I can not say the same for, vBulletin.
